Julie and Bruce share their story

I love to work with our donor families when I have the chance.  Each family has a unique story and helping them share that story is my privilege.

People are often intimidated by grief and assume that it would be an imposition to ask a family to talk with the media about the death of their loved one.  My experience is that families are honored to be able to share their memories of their loved one and the fact that he or she was able to leave a legacy through donation.

Take Julie and Bruce, for example.  Watch them talk about their son Jared in a recent piece that KARE-11 aired.

Julie contacted the station’s tipline and left a message asking if they would be willing to share her son’s story. (Note: This is much more effective than having the best PR person call and pitch a story)  KARE was interested and now the Twin Cities know about Jared; the fact that he was a gifted artist, a talented athlete and that his parents are proud of him for expressing his wish to be a donor prior to his death.
