Register to be a donor…and get your chocolate-covered bacon fix!

Tomorrow begins the twelve days of the Great Minnesota Get-Together…also known as the Minnesota State Fair.  I’ve only lived in this fantastic, lake-filled state for four years, yet I can tell you that Minnesotans take their state fair very seriously.  I’ve also been told that even if I live my remaining days in this great state I’ll never truly be Minnesotan; I guess you have to be born here to champion that title.  Such is the irony of the Get-Together; even us “non-Minnesotans” are invited.

 

Another great irony of the Fair is the fact that you can get the most calorie-laden, decadent (or sometimes just plain gross) deep-fried food and then learn about the dangers of high blood pressure and how to stay healthy and active.  This year a new treat is being offered by Famous Dave’s – chocolate-covered bacon.  It sounds absolutely disgusting, and yet I’m somewhat intrigued.  Ah, the Fair.

 

Many of us at LifeSource will have the opportunity to taste this new treat while we are there registering Minnesotans as organ and tissue donors.  As in years past people can register to be a donor at one of two booths – one in the Education Building (look for us in the southeast corner) and one in the Health Fair 11 Building (in partnership with the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank, National Marrow Donor Program and American Liver Foundation).  36 LifeSource staff will be working at the Fair this year, alongside 100 volunteers who have been touched by donation and transplantation.
